While You Read Sherlock Holmes

Now that you have done the pre-reading activities, it is time or you to read the story.

As you read it the first time, pay attention to the overall story. Try not to worry too much about specific vocabulary. When you finish, write a very brief summary (maybe 25 words) to see what you have understood.

Then you can go back and read it a second time. Pay attention to the words you don't know. You don't have to look them all up, but see which ones you are really confused by. Look those words up if you think they are essential to the story.

Come to class prepared to discuss the story and to share the words you looked up.
